BLOG: Fundraising After the Holidays

February 3, 2020 Joel Guthrie

Now that the holiday season is well behind us, it’s time to start thinking about how our fundraising initiatives can continue throughout the beginning of the new year.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be a difficult process to keep seeking donations. Here are a few tips to keep you motivated after the holiday season.

Use the holidays as a big push
Let’s speak retroactively for a minute and talk about the last few months of each year.

At this point, all of your fundraising should be full steam ahead and making good use of the giving spirit during the major holidays. Use this time to reach more donors so there is less pressure at the start of the year to make a significant amount of funds hit your account.

Again, people are in the spirit of giving, and major donations can turn up for tax reasons, philanthropy, and end of year lump sum tithing.

Don’t Stop the Energy
If you have the power in your organization to keep the energy going from end of year fundraising, we say keep on going!

For most of us, we will be back on our grind after a nebulous amount of time off (that weird week between Christmas and New Years) and ready to hop back in the hustle train. Find ways to motivate your team to keep up the energy and make the most out of the new year.

Back to Work and Running

Like your office, the rest of the world is coming back from the holiday season and checking their emails with fervor. In the early months, it’s a great time to start establishing contact with current donors to chat about what’s coming up for your non-profit to make them feel included.

It’s also a good time to reach out to prospective donors and begin the relationship at a casual pace. Ultimately, you know what is the best strategy for your non-profit, and know how the new year can affect your organization's yearly goals.
